Data Warehouse Case Study

Insurance Reporting

Sparkfish streamlined an insurance carrier’s reporting process by developing a data reporting specification and validation system, which improved data integrity and facilitated real-time, detailed reporting through Power BI.

The Problem

This insurance carrier was faced with a complicated array of data feeds from 30 different admin systems that fed data to support monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements. Most systems did not have an active data feed, and the client was gathering all elements of journal entries and reporting from manual processes.

Our Solution

Sparkfish helped the carrier develop a data reporting specification to standardize data reported from the admin systems. We also developed data integrity validation processes that ensured end-to-end data quality so numbers could be trusted. Data was then processed to render it for use in Power BI, where journal entries and other reports could be created. Ad hoc reporting then made it possible to drill into the policy-level details from aggregations that summarized billions of records in real time.
